Functional fixedness is a cognitive bias that limits a person to seeing an object only in its usual function, blocking creative problem-solving — like failing to see that a coin could work as a screwdriver.

Overcoming it is essentially what everyday creativity requires: improvising a tool, repurposing materials, or seeing a resource in an unexpected role.
